Answer: Not certain what you mean by perpendicular to the arm base...but the umbrella does tilt any which ... up, down, and I think your per perpendicular, as well, because it can be tilted totally on its side. I have been very pleased. I did purchase a heavy-duty sand filled base though that I filled with water rather than sand. The original stand sold with the umbrella was not, in my opinion, heavy duty enough for the weight of the umbrella..... it's huge and shades all my furniture grouping well, but I live in a beach town and the wind whips up each evening about 5:00 so I am very comfortable with the large base I purchased separately. Even during our winter storms, the winds never toppled the umbrella and I believe this was due to using a heavier base. the base I purchased was one recommended beside the umbrella add. I hope this is of help to you. -

The folks at Purple Leaf Garden are amazing. Parisians know their umbrellas! I ordered the 10' with the separate base. It arrived without two parts, but the team at Purple Leaf tracked them down and sent them to me. Less than 45 minutes after receiving the missing parts I had the whole thing set up as pictured. It's the sturdiest and prettiest umbrella you can buy. It has a five year warranty, too. Can't beat that! Best piece of patio furniture I've yet to encounter. I see years of gatherings in the shade ahead.

After lots of research both locally and on-line I'm really pleased with the Purple Leaf 11' Sunbrella umbrella. I echo the other reviews, high quality, easy to assemble, and smooth to operate. I had a minor problem with a small run in the Sunbrella canopy and Purple Leaf customer service had a new canopy sent to me within 4 days. I also purchased Purple Leaf's rolling base which is simple to use and rolls easy on our patio with it's commercial quality wheels. Don't hesitate to purchase.... It's that good.

We've had our umbrella for a month or so and use it a lot. We have the one with the two sided (though connected) base. It holds a lot of sand and is balanced, even in our very windy weather. We also have already had some pretty hot days, and it makes a huge difference. It looks great and functions well. I only gave it a 4 out of 5 for price because every.dang.thing is so.dang.expensive right now. Shocking how much an umbrella can cost. However, it is a quality product, and I'd rather that than a cheap product. I also like the way it hangs flat against the post with a velcro band around the umbrella. I find it looks a lot better than the ones that hang like a bat and flop around a lot.
